If you were favor or big fan of President Ma, do not click in.
Today is the second day for the new president on duty.

News Press is talking about how economical his family behaved.
Wearing old clothes and suits on the presidential ceremony.
Who really cares about that?

What impressed me most was that President Ma spoke in English when he interviewed with foreign countries ambassadors. Having a president who can speak fluent English is good. Nevertheless, in such an official occasion somehow it was not correct. First, is English Taiwan’s official language? No. Our official language is Chinese (Mandarin). In such an important occasion, speaking Chinese is polite. Also, a way to let those guests experience other countries culture. When in Taiwan, do as Taiwanese do.* Not to mention this did not show respect to the interpreter. The interpreter was sitting between president and guests doing nothing, how strange it was.

Maybe some one reminded the president he needs to speak in Chinese and let interpreter interpret. Later on another meeting, President Ma first began to speak in English then changed into Chinese. He spoke in Chinese and said “Later, I will speak to you in Chinese. When the Medias leave, we can speak in English privately.” It was like he wanted to make an announcement, afraid that others thought he can not speak English. How awkward! Shortly after, President Ma corrected interpreter’s interpretation abruptly. However, the interpreter just interpreted what he said. It was him who said the word wrong in Chinese.

Well~ On PTT (BBS) Interpreter board a person said lecturer is the biggest. Means…no complains! But they were saying President Ma we need interpretation jobs!! HA~

I saw this video on TV. I could not find any video on the web, only news article.

*The original proverb is “When in Rome, do as Romans do.”
